The effect was greater in people who consumed caffeine in the afternoon or evening, in higher doses, and in non-habitual caffeine users.
The authors conclude that caffeine consumption should be avoided in the late afternoon and evening to improve sleep quality. In particular the authors suggest that coffee (with around 100mg caffeine per 250ml) should not be consumed in the 8 hours before bedtime. So reduce your caffeine intake after lunch!

Sleep is complex, and the number of sleep disorders that are internationally recognised by the sleep practitioner’s go-to text (the International Classification of Sleep Disorders), exceeds 50. Getting a thorough sleep evaluation is key to implementing the most appropriate treatment and getting sleep back on track.
As an example, a recent article presents a case study of a 28-year-old man with Moebius syndrome who was initially diagnosed with hypersomnia but was later found to have irregular sleep-wake rhythm disorder. The patient had difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep at night, and was often tired during the day.
He was initially diagnosed with hypersomnia and was prescribed modafinil, which did not improve his symptoms. After further evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with irregular sleep-wake rhythm disorder, a circadian rhythm sleep disorder characterised by a disrupted sleep–wake cycle. Treatment with melatonin and light therapy improved his sleep quality and daytime alertness. The article highlights the importance of a comprehensive evaluation of sleep disorders in individuals and the potential for misdiagnosis when symptoms overlap with other sleep disorders.

Have you ever been deep in sleep but become consciously aware within your dream, then realised that you can not move or speak, and you experience vivid (often horrific) hallucinations? You’re not alone! This is the phenomenon of Isolated Sleep Paralysis (ISP).
A recent article provides an overview of (ISP) based on a large international survey of over 6,000 participants. The survey found that ISP was reported by a significant proportion of participants and was associated with various risk factors such as poor sleep quality, longer sleep onset latency (the time it takes to get to sleep), insomnia, stress, anxiety, and depression.
Participants who experienced ISP reported a range of coping strategies, including relaxation techniques and changes to sleep habits such as sleeping regularly, trying to avoid being overtired, adjusting the sleep environment, moving position and making a noise, but there was no consensus on effective prevention or treatment methods.
